Apochromatic Refractor Telescope
The Sky-Watcher EVOSTAR 80ED F/7.5 Apochromatic Refractor Telescope is a fine instrument for deep-sky observation and planetary imaging. The apochromatic ED (extra low dispersion) design of the refractor is able to deliver high quality images free from the distracting halo of unfocused violet light (chromatic aberration) that marrs the view of star clusters and solar system objects in lesser telescopes at higher magnifications. The ED doublet lens elements in the EVOSTAR 80ED are further enhanced by Sky-Watcher’s Metallic High-Transmission Coatings to remove any false color that would detract from the image.
This remarkably capable instrument has an impressive 600mm focal length that allows it to achieve very high magnifications while using relatively short focal length eyepieces. The slow f/7.5 focal ratio helps to control the chromatic aberration, which also makes it easy to use a wide-field eyepiece and still be able to see detail on celestial bodies in their entirety. The Sky-Watcher EVOSTAR 80ED F/7.5 Apochromatic Refractor Telescope performs similarly to a larger reflector or catadioptric telescope on deep-sky objects, although it does require the use of a field flattener to get optimum performance from a diffraction grating apochromatic refractor for astrophotographic applications.
In the hands of an experienced astronomer, the EVOSTAR 80ED will reveal spectacular detail on many deep-sky objects when used at lower magnifications with high-quality wide-field eyepieces. Open star clusters such as M35 and the Pleiades will be a visual treat, with fine structure becoming evident at powers of around 50x. Planetary nebulae are easily resolved, although their fainter companions will require a bit more resolving power than this small telescope can muster.

The EVOSTAR 80ED includes a 2″ dielectric star diagonal with 99% mirror coatings, two 1.25″ long eye relief (LER) eyepieces (LE20mm and LE5mm), and a 1.25″ accessory adapter that slips into the focuser drawtube to let you add other accessories. A Vixen-style dovetail mounting bar is attached directly to the focuser tube, allowing you to mount this telescope on most medium capacity German and altazimuth equatorial mounts such as the popular Astro-Tech Voyager II and Celestron AVX Advanced Series go-to equatorial mounts.
