Good wrought iron headboards

The material that is wrought or cast iron is one of the best in terms of style, durability, and sturdiness. However, even the best things have flaws. There is always a catch, so to speak. For example, wrought iron headboards might look good on a bed, but a bed with them on can completely destroy the theme of a bedroom, depending on the theme of course. But before we get into the good and bad of cast iron material, one must understand what wrought iron really is.

Wrought or folded iron is an ancient steel alloy used for swords, knives, cutlery, and even armor for warships of decades and centuries past. It was the material for just about any iron work you can mention, ornamental or otherwise. However, with the advent of mild steel, the use of bent iron has diminished and what was forged with cast iron is easily forged with mild steel. These days, anything resembling cast iron patterns is called that, even though they are made of mild steel.

Still, bent iron cut mild steel creates some interesting designs, and mild steel is just as strong and durable as wrought iron. Therefore, in addition to cast iron headboards, you may want to support the entire bed with a bent iron bed frame; of course wrought or folded iron is mild steel in this sense. Another good thing about mild steel is that it can be cast into any shape or pattern that cast iron used to specialize in. This makes for some interesting designs, such as those that trigger a romantic mood once you see the bed.

Perhaps the only bad thing about mild steel is that it is more prone to rust than true wrought or cast iron. The good news is that rust can be delayed, if not completely prevented, with a good coat of paint. Also, rust needs water or moisture to grow, so if you can prevent your wrought furniture from being exposed to too much moisture, all the better.

Wrought iron planters are the most rust-prone bent iron pieces. If you have bent iron pots, make sure they can be brought inside when the weather starts to turn bad. Indoor furniture, or parts of it, such as wrought iron headboards, will not be prone to rust, but may be prone to dust. Still, a little dusting is all it takes to maintain a wrought iron piece of furniture. So, with the good and the bad, do you think the bent iron is still worth it? The answer is an obvious YES.
