Pregnancy is the period from conception to birth. During this time the fetus develops within the uterus with the nutrients provided by the mother, who then must dedicate special care to a healthy diet. In fact, the diet taken during pregnancy should not be much different from a normal balanced diet, but it is necessary to avoid certain foods that may not benefit the fetus. What really matters is not having a bad diet, because the child will be much more sensitive to what he eats. In fact, it has been proven with certainty that a poor diet leads directly to a low birth weight of the child, a factor that increases perinatal morbidity and mortality and increases the frequency of congenital malformations.

The same is true of lifestyle: smoking, a habit that is harmful for the mother, is even more so for the fetus, and the same is true of alcohol, which should be completely prohibited in the diet until conception. Caffeine consumption should be drastically reduced, especially during the later stages of pregnancy. Weight gain in pregnancy is not fixed, because it depends on many factors, the most important of which are the weight of the fetus at birth and the nutritional status of the woman at the beginning of pregnancy.

Weight gain should range between 10 and 15 kg (16 to 20 kg, during pregnancy with twins), overweight women should be kept low in this range. Week, and progress gradually, at a rate of around 350 -400 g per week (750 g if the delivery is twin). Physical activity in this period generally decreases and thus leads to more weight problems. As much as possible, try to walk and be active. Always drink lots of water and eat lots of fruit. Pregnancy should be a wonderful experience and not a time of dietary controls, however, it is very important to watch what you eat.
