If you’re worried right now that you might have a sinus infection, there are some symptoms to look for or recognize that will let you know you probably have one.

Sinus infection symptoms can often be mistaken for having a cold or assuming that one is allergic to something. The symptoms can sometimes be similar and in some cases even the same.

One of the first symptoms you want to look for in a full-blown sinus infection is yellowish mucus. You may be spitting out bits of yellow plugs. If it’s yellow, you can assume you have a sinus infection. Don’t be alarmed, you can do something about it at home naturally. You don’t want to take antibiotics or other medicines that could make or make you worse and expose you to other risks.

If you have a headache, it may or may not be sinus related, but if you have a yellowish discharge, it likely is. Many people will get sinus headaches without having a sinus infection.

You may or may not have a stuffy nose. Your sinuses become blocked during a sinus infection and the liter of fluid that needs to move through your sinuses every day cannot. You want to make sure you keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids to help dilute your sinus fluids.

You may have a sore throat or slightly sore throat. Many people don’t make the connection of a scratchy or sore throat with their sinuses, but irritating drainage seeps down the back of the throat and causes this irritation. You can determine if you have a sore throat for other reasons by doing this.

Gargle with a little warm salt water. Use about half a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water and gargle gently. If your throat soothes within a few minutes, you probably have sinus irritation, not strep throat or other problems. This does not mean you have a sinus infection, but you may have inflamed sinuses or sinusitis from exposure to pollutants, smoke, smog, fumes, chemicals, particles, or other factors. But you want to know the difference. If you have strep throat, you will need medical attention and it is contagious.

There are a few other symptoms that can accompany a sinus infection, such as a cough, but these are the most frequently associated symptoms in my experience. Many people with sinus infections cure them naturally.

Antibiotics, in general, will not work for sinus infections in a partner for a number of reasons. Most infections are caused by fungi (mold) and antibiotics cannot reach the sinus cavities. If you have a sinus infection now or think you may, here are the symptoms to look for. Try natural treatments at home and get rid of it in a couple of days or so.
