With the holidays right around the corner, invitations to all sorts of social events will soon be arriving. From casual family dinners to glitzy New Year’s Eve parties, your wardrobe will be stretched to the limit to put together those perfect holiday outfits.

Except for those tongue-in-cheek “Ugly Holiday Sweater” parties, you’ll want to keep overtly themed outfits to a minimum. That doesn’t mean that for casual get-togethers you can’t show your holiday spirit with an “I Believe” t-shirt or cute jingle bell bracelet. Stay comfortable yet festive with flats and clogs accented with rhinestones or embroidery, which add a little flair when paired with a corduroy miniskirt and tights or leggings. And tackle those winter wonderland with faux fur-trimmed sweaters, coats and vests.

Holidays are all about sparkle and shine. Give a cocktail party a festive touch with a metallic sequined tank top under a satin blazer, or a cashmere cardigan sprinkled across the shoulders with sparkly beads or sequins. Channel your inner Dorothy with slippers in bright red, or for New Years, in silver and gold.

For dressier parties, a black satin cocktail dress will take you from a conservative office party to New Year’s Eve at the hottest club in town. Just add basic pearls, a silk wrap, and peep-toe pumps for the work function, but swap them out for rhinestones and sky-high strappy heels for the social scene. For something more flashy, sequins and metallics are the name of the game even for a formal vacation. Just remember “less is more” with these outgoing materials if you want to avoid looking more like a disco ball than a society darling. If you prefer more understated fashion statements, you’re in luck. Popular colors this season are gray and deep purple, which look fabulous and classic on seasonal satins, velvets and silks.

A great feature of the holidays is having carte blanche to channel your inner girl. What other time of year can you wear heels with big satin bows and look more like Carrie Bradshaw than Little Bow Peep? Put away your basic black and brown pumps and splurge on those red patent heels. This is also the time for pom-poms, both the furry ones at the ends of your coat drawstrings and the ones dangling in colored yarn from the ends of your scarf. Another big trend this holiday season is feminine and flattering cowl neck tops and dresses. When wearing this style, forgo a necklace for a pair of chandelier earrings to create a classic, statement look.

From comfortable to formal, classic to modern, the holidays are the time of year when we really shine and shine. So when you’re Christmas shopping for friends and family, be sure to pick up a few things for yourself at a women’s fashion boutique to ensure you look fabulous at all the holiday events around the corner.
