A few years ago, I had the pleasure of reading Chandler’s first EPPIE award-winning book, MotherShip. I have never forgotten that book and always hoped there would be a sequel.

Well now there is! Mother and her crew are back in a thrilling action-adventure-mystery sequel that spans worlds populated by a variety of alien beings rivaling even the eclectic “Star Wars” collection. Chandler has the unique talent of bringing her characters to life and making you believe that not only are they possible, but maybe, just maybe, they’re waiting right around the corner.

One of my husband’s favorite adages is, “Never try to come between a mother and her child.” While reading this book, I thought about that and couldn’t help but laugh. Imagine how much more that adage could mean if that “Mother” is a sentient starship fully armed with hybrid weapons built especially for her and ready for battle. Oh!

Three children raised by mom are now young adults filled with the curiosity and exuberance of youth. Are these three the last humans left in the universe? His home world, Earth, was completely destroyed by a warlike alien race. The children barely escaped destruction as they were already aboard the MotherShip. But his search for other humans is not over. Deep down, they hope to find other human survivors. Because he wants them to be happy, it is also the goal of the Mother. The search takes them millions of light years away to alien worlds, where they encounter many alien races, but no humans.

During their search, they and their alien “family” become entangled in a web of espionage and danger where they encounter the mysterious Paum. Who or what is Paum? Why are the inhabitants of this universe afraid of Paum? Why is this Paum so interested in mom? They soon discover that there is more than lives at stake. Perhaps the future of the entire universe rests in the hands of these three young humans, Mother, and her little “family of hers.”

Because I’m intrigued by the idea of intelligent machines with artificial intelligence, I found myself holding my breath to see what Mom would do next. One of my favorite lines in the book is, “Don’t make Mommy mad.” This story will have you chuckling one minute and on the edge of your seat the next.

If you haven’t read the first MotherShip story, you’ll find that the sequel, Borne On Wings Of Steel, stands alone with great adventures and will keep you enthralled from the first page to the last.

If you read the first, your experience will be doubly enriched: you will meet old friends and make new ones in this second in the series. I highly recommend that you get both in Hard Shell Word Factory and take not just one, but two exciting journeys into this groundbreaking future that Chandler has created for you.
